Join us for a presentation by Art Carden of Samford University, who will discuss “Leave Me Alone and I’ll Make You Rich: How the Bourgeois Deal Enriched the World.” Life for the average person for most of history was “solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.” In the 21st century, it is connected, rich, clean, safe, and long for increasing numbers of people worldwide. This Great Enrichment started in northwestern Europe in the middle of the eighteenth century because people there embraced the Bourgeois Deal: they granted new liberty and dignity for innovators and entrepreneurs, who in turn enriched us all.

The event will start promptly at 6:00 PM (CT) and will begin with a presentation by Phil, followed by a Q&A session. It is part of the H.F. Langenberg Memorial Speaker Series, which is proud to be partnering with several organizations and universities around the country.

Audience members will be able to submit questions during the panel discussion via the chat feature.

Open discussion and audience participation are hallmarks of the Langenberg Speaker Series, so the Q&A session will make up a significant part of the program, which will end at 7:30 PM. A social cocktail hour will follow until 8:30 PM.

Featuring:

Art Carden is Margaret Gage Bush Distinguished Professor of Business and Medical Properties Trust Fellow at Samford University’s Brock School of Business, a Senior Research Fellow with the American Institute for Economic Research, and a co-editor of the Southern Economic Journal. His research has appeared in Business Ethics Quarterly, the Journal of Urban Economics, the Southern Economic Journal, Public Choice, Contemporary Economic Policy, and other journals, and his commentaries have appeared in Forbes, USA Today, the Washington Examiner, and many other outlets.
